"Organization is Access"
This mantra, given to us at the start of LIBE 465, served as the impetus for my goal of designing a new library web page. Physical access to the Richmond Christian Secondary Library is limited to the hours between 8am and 4pm Monday to Friday, but through Destiny the resources on the library catalog can be accessed 24/7. The need for a strong virtual presence is essential, not only because of the 24/7 nature of an online space, but because it opens up the catalog to more users. That being said, I felt the current online space, a generic Destiny homepage, could better meet the needs of the community by being tailored to reflect the school curriculum, being a place to further educate the community on literacy skills, being easier for the community to get to and navigate, and finally by being better organized visually and enhanced by multi-media features. As I made changes I kept in mind the CASL standards for communications through I.C.T. which
state: "The school library website provides access to automated library
catalogue with online booking, resources for students, comprehensive
databases, school library information, and links." (Asselin, 2006,
p.49.) I assessed the current web resources and began adding more; a detailed list of these can be found on the Catalog page. I explain the how I organized the website on the Organization page. Finally, I offer thoughts on my learning throughout the process on the Reflection page.
